Lilliputs Dolls Museum

Lilliputs Dolls Museum is home to one of the finest collections of toys and dolls in Britain. Owners of the Lilliputs Dolls Museum, the Munday Family have been collecting antique dolls since the end of World War II. They bought the Dolls Museum in Brading in 1974 and have a wide range of dolls representing several historic periods and generally date from around 2000 BC to the days of World War II.

Visitors walking around can see many unusual dolls that are unique to the museum and learn about their interesting history. Perhaps the most fascinating dolls in the museum are the two oldest dolls, the ‘Ushabti’ from Ancient Egypt and date from 2000 BC – 1500 BC. They are known as ‘Answerers’ and accompanied the deceased to the next world as servants. Another very rare doll is the Princess Diana doll held in the museum, this doll’s wedding dress was made from the original remnants of silk from Diana’s actual wedding dress.

The museum has been awarded the Certificate of Merit in the British Tourist Boards Trophy Competition and the organisers of BBC Antiques Road Show said it is the most interesting Doll and Toy Museum they had seen, whilst filming items for the show.

If your doll, teddy bear or soft toy is in need of some tender loving care, Lilliputs Dolls Museum will also assess the situation, make a diagnosis and prescribe the necessary course of treatment.

If you would like us to restore any of your dolls, teddy bears or soft toys, please contact us first, by phone or Email before sending any item through the post, we will then discuss your requirements and give advice about packing instructions and insurance.

We give free estimates of the likely costs of restoration/repair work - there is no obligation to accept the estimate but the postage and insurance must be paid if the item is sent and returned through the post

The museum is open all year round from 10am – 5pm, except Christmas Day.
